Currents

The latest fad.  Your biggest frustrations.  A memory-making experience.  The most recent news headlines. Your favorite (and maybe secret) guilty pleasure.  That's what Currents is all about--timely topics.

We want to know what you think, feel, hear and see as you navigate your way through life.

When the topics and your replies warrant action, we'll take it as a challenge to see how we can advocate on your behalf for change, particularly in the marketplace of products and services.  Simply leave your answer in the box below and if you have a photo or video that brings your response to life, post it in the “latest media” section below as well.

To tip or not to tip? You tell us!

You call your favorite restaurant, place an order for pick-up, and run to get it 20 minutes later.  You hurry inside, grab your food, and go to pay the bill, and there it is. The tip line on the receipt.  If you're like a lot of Janes, you're left wondering...."Am I supposed to leave something?  They just put my food in a bag right?  They didn't spend an hour asking me if I was okay and refilling my wine glass.  But, someone did have to put it all together.  And, do they not get tips just because they have to work the take out counter?"

So, we want to know what you do.  Do you draw a line through the space and leave the total, give them a little less than if you dined in, or give them the same amount you would give any waiter?  Help us be less confused when it comes to take-out tipping!

Well, a tip is "To Insure Prompt Service" so I guess I would apply that to dining in. I'm not sure I would tip 15% for take-out. I'm a great tipper but I do think we tip A LOT in America.

When I was a server in college, my biggest annoyance was when I took the time to place an order (esp. if they took forever to make a decision), boxed it up, and handled the payment for the customer with a friendly attitude BUT didn't get anything in return. Because the server has spent some time with you, he/she deserves some sort of compensation. I don't think servers should receive the full 20-25% since it's not the full dining experience, but at least 10% is good.
